Rotary Club of Ogba Marks Environment Month with Community Clean-Up
As part of activities marking Rotary International’s Environment Month, the Rotary Club of Ogba successfully organised a community clean-up exercise on April 25, 2026, around Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
Club members were joined by members of the local community in a collective effort to promote environmental sustainability and public health. The exercise involved clearing waste, improving sanitation, and raising awareness on the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
The initiative reflects the Club’s commitment to service and its dedication to fostering a healthier and more sustainable community. It also highlights the power of collaboration in driving meaningful environmental impact.
Rotary Club of Ogba Hosts Insightful Environmental Lecture
As part of activities marking Rotary International’s Environment Month, the Rotary Club of Ogba hosted a lecture delivered by Rtn. Titilope Oguntuga titled “Towards a Safe and Healthy Environment with a Focus on Waste, Recycling and Circular Economy.”
In her presentation, she described the environment as our natural habitat and emphasised its importance to human well-being. She highlighted the scale of global waste generation, noting that while the world produces about 2 billion tons annually, Nigeria contributes approximately 32 million tons. She stressed the urgent need to transition from a linear to a circular economy.
Rtn. Oguntuga introduced the Seven R’s of Sustainability and outlined the environmental and economic benefits of recycling. Members expressed appreciation for the enlightening session, while PAG Kola Okunola delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the Club.
In line with the RI March 2026 theme of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), our Club successfully carried out its Waste Bin Donation Project on 25 March 2026 at the Ifako Ijaiye Health Care Centre. As part of the initiative, the club donated two waste bins to support improved sanitation, cleaner surroundings, and healthier service conditions within the Centre.
The project was well received, with officials expressing genuine appreciation for both the visit and the thoughtful gesture. Beyond the presentation itself, the engagement strengthened community ties and reflected Rotary’s enduring commitment to public health, hygiene, and sustainable service. The club looks forward to deepening this relationship through future initiatives that will continue to benefit the community.
Promoting Ethical Governance as a Foundation for Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention in Nigeria
As part of its February 2026 activities marking Rotary’s Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month, our Club hosted a public lecture titled “Promoting Ethical Governance as a Foundation for Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention in Nigeria.” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Abdullahi Bello, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Abuja, whose insights brought depth and relevance to the discussion on leadership, accountability, and national development.
The event created an important platform for reflection on the role of ethical governance in building peaceful and resilient communities. Through this initiative, the club not only advanced Rotary’s peacebuilding agenda but also reaffirmed its own commitment to promoting ethical leadership, supporting strong institutions, and contributing meaningfully to sustainable peace and civic responsibility within the wider community.
In February 2026, the Rotary Club of Ogba gave practical expression to Rotary’s Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month through a meaningful community support initiative. On 25 February 2026, the club donated power-generating equipment and stationery to the Area G Police Command, Ogba, Lagos, as part of its commitment to strengthening institutions that serve the community. This intervention was designed to support the Command’s operational efficiency and contribute to a safer and more responsive working environment.
Beyond the material donation, the project reflected the club’s belief that peacebuilding also requires support for public institutions, responsible partnerships, and shared community effort. The Rotary Club of Ogba remains committed to initiatives that promote peace, strengthen local capacity, and create lasting impact within the communities it serves.
As part of activities marking the January 2026 Rotary Theme of Vocational Service, the Rotary Club of Ogba organised a career talk for senior secondary school students on January 27, 2026, at Brightfield International School, Dopemu, Agege, Lagos. The session focused on career guidance, professional development, and the importance of ethical service in chosen professions.
The club was represented by the Vice President, Rtn. Godwin Nwosu, and the Secretary, Rtn. Ken Ogu, who engaged students through interactive discussions and practical career insights. The initiative reflects the club’s commitment to empowering young people, promoting vocational excellence, and supporting future leaders within our community.
Our club held its December fellowship on December 10, 2025, hosting Dr. Olatubosun Akinlade, a distinguished health practitioner from LASUTH. In alignment with the Rotary Theme for December 2025, 'Disease Prevention and Treatment', Dr. Akinlade delivered a comprehensive and enlightening presentation.
His lecture provided invaluable insights into holistic health, emphasizing the critical link between mental wellness and physical disease prevention. He offered practical strategies for managing stress, building resilience, and fostering community-level health interventions.
The session was highly interactive, with members engaging in a thoughtful Q&A that explored Rotary's role in supporting public health.
In November 2025, our Club marked Rotary Foundation Month with an engaging and impactful programme centred on the theme, “Building a Better World Through the Rotary Foundation.” The event featured a thought-provoking session delivered by PDG Bola Oyebade, whose insights highlighted the transformative role of the Rotary Foundation in driving sustainable change across communities. The programme combined a talk show, fellowship, and meaningful discussions that deepened members’ understanding of Rotary’s global impact. It also provided an opportunity for reflection on how the club can further support Foundation initiatives. The event reinforced the club’s commitment to service, giving, and collective action toward building a better and more inclusive world.
As part of our commitment to Community and Economic Development, the Rotary Club of Ogba proudly sponsored the Street 2 Stardom Football Competition, held on October 19, 2025, at Area G Command, Ogba.
This initiative focused on youth empowerment through sports, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills while promoting discipline, teamwork, and community spirit. The project also served as an avenue for Rotary to engage with the youth, encourage positive lifestyles, and foster peacebuilding within the community.
The Rotary Club of Ogba remains committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young people and supporting initiatives that drive growth, development, and hope for the future.
On Wednesday, 15th October 2025, the Rotary Club of Ogba had the privilege of hosting the official visit of District Governor, Rtn. Prince Henry Akinyele. The visit was inspiring and impactful, giving members an opportunity to reflect on Rotary’s ideals and commitment to service above self.
The District Governor participated in presenting the Club’s micro grants to three nano entrepreneurs, supporting Community Economic Development by empowering small-scale businesses to thrive.
In his remarks, the DG commended the club’s initiatives and urged members to remain steadfast in Rotary’s ideals, with renewed focus on membership growth, fellowship, and contributions to the Rotary Foundation to strengthen impact in our communities.
The event was a remarkable highlight of our Rotary year, reinforcing our dedication to the theme “Unite for Good.” The Rotary Club of Ogba remains committed to service, fellowship, and creating lasting impact.
Celebrating a Proud Moment: A Nigerian at Rotary’s Helm
The Rotary Club of Ogba extends its warmest congratulations to Olayinka Hakeem Babalola of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Nigeria, who has been selected as the 2026–27 President of Rotary International!
PDG Babalola will assume this prestigious role beginning 1 July 2026, following a special board session held after the unexpected resignation of the previous president-elect.
With over three decades of dedicated service, including leadership roles as district governor (2011–12), RI vice president (2019–20), and RI Board member (2018–20), as well as his instrumental work with the PolioPlus Countdown to History Campaign and the Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee, he brings a remarkable track record to the position.
This historic milestone is not only a moment of national pride but also a profound opportunity for all Nigerian Rotarians. We look forward to the vision and leadership PDG Babalola will bring to Rotary International.

In celebration of Rotary’s theme of Basic Education and Literacy, the Rotary Club of Ogba will be organising a seminar on waste management while also supporting education for underprivileged children in our community.
As part of this initiative, the club will distribute school uniforms, shoes, and bags to 50 indigent students, ensuring they are better equipped to pursue their studies with dignity and confidence. This project reflects our commitment to shaping young minds and building a greener, more sustainable future through education and environmental awareness.

On Wednesday, 20th August 2025, the Rotary Club of Ogba was honoured to host PDG Kola Sodipo as guest speaker in celebration of Membership and New Club Development Month.
PDG Kola delivered an engaging lecture titled “Growing Membership in Rotary through Attraction and Engagement.” He shared valuable insights on how clubs can effectively attract new members while sustaining the commitment of existing ones. His practical strategies around sourcing, onboarding, and retaining members inspired us to strengthen our efforts in building a vibrant and resilient Rotary family.
