History of the Rotary Club of Ogba
History of the Rotary Club of Ogba
The Rotary Club of Ogba was born out of the visionary leadership and commitment of Rotarians dedicated to expanding Rotary’s impact across Nigeria. In the Rotary year 1982–1983, the Rotary Club of Ikeja recommended the formation of a new club to serve the Ogba community. At that time, Past District Governor (PDG) Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, fondly known as PDG Juli, was the District Governor of Rotary District 9110, which then covered the entire country. PDG Juli was also a distinguished Past President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja.
Following the recommendation, PDG Juli appointed Rotarian Aku Omokhodion as the District Governor’s Special Representative (DGSR) to coordinate and supervise the establishment of the new club. Additionally, Rotarian Justice A. Adeoba, affectionately known as “Area Father”, was appointed as the District Governor’s Representative/Extension Counsellor for Area 2, which included Ogba and its surrounding areas.
These two representatives played pivotal roles in the successful formation of the Rotary Club of Ogba. The club’s first contact meeting was held on Sunday, 6th February 1983, at the residence of Dr. Aku Omokhodion, who also served as Secretary of the sponsoring club, Rotary Club of Ikeja.
At that inaugural meeting, the following key decisions were made:
Annual Dues: ₦40.00 per member
Admission Fee: ₦50.00 per member
District Dues: ₦40.00 per member
The formal Charter Presentation of the Rotary Club of Ogba took place on 24th June 1983, and the club held its first official meeting on 5th July 1983.
This legacy of service, leadership, and fellowship continues to guide the Rotary Club of Ogba to this day.
